Starring alongside Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley in The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries”, Kayla Ewell has nothing but praise for the actors, considering both of them very sexy and hot. “They’re both so sexy! Every day I show up at work and think, ‘It’s not fair that you’re this hot!” she tells OK! Magazine in an exclusive interview for its current issue.

“They’re so charming in real life and each has a really engaging personality,” raves the 24-year-old actress. “Ian is gregarious, the life of the party and the one everybody gravitates toward; Paul is like a secretive, sexy, groovy vampire – he’s on the opposite end of the spectrum.”

However, none of them is her choice when it comes to actor who has played the hottest male vampire as she tells the publication, “My all-time favorite is Brad Pitt in ‘Interview with the Vampire’.” About the 45-year-old film hunk she enthuses, “He’s so sexy. I’m a fan of anything he does, but in that film he’s a vampire who doesn’t want to feed. There’s something super sexy about someone who has to feed to survive but doesn’t want to do it.”

When asked to comment about her then-boyfriend Kellan Lutz who stars as vampire Emmett Cullen in “Twilight”, Kayla says she shares acting tips with him. “It’s fun to call Kellan and run ideas by him. He and I dated for years, when we were younger. We’re really good friends still. It’s so much fun for us, now, to see each other working and still be each others support system. He’s amazing,” she tells OK! Magazine.

“I don’t want to be that show where there’s no jeopardy,” explained Kevin Williamson in a recent chat with MTV, giving us the scoop on Vicki’s shocking death. “[Some shows] are all very predictable in the sense that, well, ‘We know this is the lead character so we know he won’t die.’ Or, ‘That’s a regular, so he won’t die, it’ll be a supporting person.”

Actress Kayla Ewell has featured quite prominently in the show’s first six episodes, but Williamson told us that he needed a sacrificial lamb to make sure his audience knows that nobody is ever safe in Mystic Falls. “You know, I’ve killed all the supporting people I want to,” laughed Williamson, insisting it was time to take out a more sizable star. “I want the show to have an unpredictable quality to it, and I think that’s going to come now and the audience will realize I will kill them — we will kill the main characters. This is a show that will go there.”

A little background: On Aug. 22, police responded to several phone calls about a group of women who were allegedly flashing motorists and hanging off a bridge in Forsyth, Ga. When police arrived at the scene, they found four actresses from Vampire Diaries — Candice Accola, Sara Canning, Nina Dobrev and Ewell — and a photographer, Tyler Shields. (Another actress who does not appear on the show, Krystal Vayda, was also on the scene.) Officers looking through the group’s pics found “numerous photographs of the females hanging, sitting, and straddling the bridge,” according to a report by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. As EW previously reported, the six were taken into police custody, paid a fine, and were released soon after.

But, according to Ewell, the incident was more innocent than it was made out to be. The actress says while on a road trip with her castmates (the show shoots nearby), the group decided to stop to take pictures on a bridge. That’s when they were rushed by Monroe County cops. “They were like, ‘We’re getting calls that people are flashing,’” Ewell says. “And we’re like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. The only thing that’s flashing is our camera.’” The actress says that after showing police their photos, the group was asked to follow officials to the police station, where they were ticketed for loitering on a public walkway.

So why did motorists allegedly think the actresses were exposing themselves? “I have no idea,” Ewell says. “We are not the type of girls who flash our breasts. In all honesty, the size of my breasts aren’t necessarily something people would be interested in. It’s so ridiculous. I would never do that.” (As for those rumors that the group was drinking? Not true, says Ewell: “I mean, this happened at 11 am in the morning.”)

But Ewell and the cast is still trying to focus on the positive, regardless of whatever bad press the situation created. “We’re trying to straighten everything out and be happy that we’re on a fabulous TV show,” she says. “As a cast, we have all worked so incredibly hard to get here. We don’t want people to think of us this way.”

In a nutshell: Two vampire brothers – one good, one evil – are vying for the attention of a local high-school hottie and since it’s not the first time they’ve clashed over a girl, they’re willing to fight dirty.

Pilot premise: The pilot largely focuses on the female protagonist, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), and her family-related woes. It turns out that her mother and father are dead, she’s being ‘disciplined’ by her aunt, and her brother has gone somewhat off the rails since the demise of their parents. Enter the ‘good’ vampire, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who immediately catches her eye. The pair dance around each other for most of the episode, and eventually Elena invites him into her house. Meanwhile, local residents are being bitten – in some cases quite savagely – and the obvious candidate is Stefan. However, a scene towards the end hints that his (as-yet-unseen) brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), is the real culprit. Cue fight scene, and fade to black – after some Dear Diary moments, of course.

The whens and wheres: The series is due to premiere in the US on Thursday, September 10 as a lead-in to Supernatural. In the UK, it will air on ITV2 in early 2010 after ITV acquired the rights earlier this week.

Dan says: Overall, not a bad pilot, although it was rather clichéd at times. It may be of interest to early Dawson’s Creek fans in that it’s very teeny – and at times naff – and there’s a lot of over-analysing and diary-related moments (as the title suggests). A sexy cast means that it’s probably worth tuning in for at least one episode.

Neil says: Ugh. Verrrry Twilight – the imitation and opportunism have no bounds here. Episode one is all about setting up the characters – of which, only Ian Somerhalder’s bastard Damon was of interest to me – so it will be interesting to see what sort of formula the show takes on a weekly basis thereonin. Is it any good? Not really. Will it succeed? Probably.

Expressing some reservations about trying to hop on the massive resurgence the vampire genre currently has, series writer/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek”) said he initially said no to doing a series and big-screen version of the ’90s books written by L.J. Smith on which the series is based.

“There’s no way I’m going to step on ‘Twilight,’” Williamson said when he was first approached. Co-writer Julie Plec, however, encouraged him to keep reading Smith’s young adult books and that’s when the backstory and mythology lured him in.

“I got into the series because of ‘Twilight’ and ‘True Blood,’ ” Williamson said. “I love those shows, that’s why I wanted to get into the vampire genre.”

Williamson added that he has always loved the genre and used to watch ’60s “sexy soap opera” “Dark Shadows” as a kid.

“‘Vampire Diaries’ has a little bit of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ in it with creatures that go beyond vampires,” he added.

When asked how the CW series will stand out from its vampire classmates, Plec was quick to share one of the show’s mottos: “Nobody sparkles,” in a reference to “Twilight’s” Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).
“Everybody has a different set of rules,” she added. “(‘Vampire Diaries’) is not crucifixes, silver, garlic — there’s not a lot that can hurt them; we’re exploring a lot of ways to bring down (evil brother) Damon.”

Series star Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, the better half of the vampire brothers fighting over Elana (Nina Dobrev), admitted that he’s already being compared with Pattinson.

“It makes me so uncomfortable,” he said. “Nine of 10 girls in this rom would throw me under a bus to get to Edward Cullen.”

Fans, however, disagreed.

“Vampire Diaries” premieres in September on the CW.
